Meet The Presenters
Dr. Mitchell is a six time Olympic Games attending veterinarian for the US Equestrian Team and co-owner of Fairfield Equine Associates in Newtown, CT where he practices equine medicine and surgery with an emphasis on lameness and imaging. He is internationally certified in veterinary acupuncture and equine locomotor pathology and completed requirements for diplomate status in ACVSMR in 2015.
Dr. Mitchell has been involved in national and international equine competitions as both a rider and veterinarian. As a rider, he won two national championships and one world championship. He has authored multiple nationally and internationally published articles and textbook chapters on equine health care.
Dr. Mitchell has served on multiple Boards of Directors including the United States Equestrian Federation, Connecticut Veterinary Medical Association, and the American Association of Equine Practitioners. and is is a current Trustee for the American Horse Council and chairman of the Health and Regulatory Committee.
Dr. Mitchell is also a founding member of the International Society of Equine Locomotor Pathology, and serves on the society’s board of directors.
Dr. Mitchell is a graduate of Oklahoma State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1974 and served on active duty in the USAF Veterinary Corps for two years following graduation.
Dr. Allen is the owner of Virginia Equine Imaging, the first privately owned and operated equine diagnostic imaging specialty clinic in the world.
Dr. Allen has served as Chairman of the USEF Veterinary Committee, the USEF Drug and Medication Committee, and the Medication Sub Committee for the Federation Equestrian Internationale.
He served as the FEI Foreign Veterinary Delegate for the 1999 Pan American Games the 2000 Olympic Games at Sydney, and the 2012 Olympic Games in London. Dr. Allen was also the 2010 World Equestrian Games Official Veterinary Coordinator and the head veterinary services coordinator at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta,
Dr. Allen is currently certified by the International Society of Equine Locomotor Pathology (ISELP) and serves as its Vice President and Executive Director. He also serves as the volunteer Chairman of the United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) Veterinary, Drug, and Medications Committees and on the FEI Veterinary and List Committees.
Dr. Allen received his DVM from the
University Of Missouri.
Dr. Melissa King is a board certified equine sports medicine and rehabilitation specialist at Colorado State University Veterinary Teaching Hospital.
Dr. King graduated from Colorado State Veterinary School in 1997 and completed an internship at Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital in Lexington, KY. Upon completion of her internship Dr. King returned to northern Colorado to begin her career as an equine ambulatory clinician focusing on equine sports medicine.
In 2011, Dr. King completed a PhD in Equine Biomechanics and Rehabilitation at the Orthopedic Research Center assessing the efficacy of underwater treadmill exercise to diminish the progression of carpal osteoarthritis.
Dr. King co-authored the APTA Orthopedic Section Physical Therapy Examination of the Equine Patient in 2015.
Currently Dr. King is an assistant professor for the equine sports medicine and rehabilitation service at Colorado State University.
